Calling all young North West constituents - and their teachers!

I am delighted to invite you to enter a competition, which I have set up for people aged 16-30 years old in my North West constituency, aimed at raising awareness and understanding of the European Union.

The winner of the competition will win a two-day trip to the European Parliament in Strasbourg to join young people from across Europe at the European Youth Event. If you are a sixth form, college or university student, nine other students and staff at your place of study will also be invited to join you on the trip.

The European Youth Event takes place on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd June, 2018, and is a tremendous opportunity to discuss issues that affect citizens across the EU, from jobs and the environment, to security and economic policy. It will include working closely with young people from across Europe, as well as with European politicians.

To enter the competition, you are invited to submit work under the theme ‘Britain’s place in Europe’.

Entries can be in any of the following formats:

  • An essay (maximum 1000 words);
  • A piece of creative writing (maximum 1000 words);
  • Audio / visual work - a piece of art, a recording, or a short film (audio and video submissions must be a maximum of 5 minutes long, and may be submitted either individually or by up to five students working together).

The competition prize will include flights from Manchester Airport, accommodation in Strasbourg, and daily expenses in accordance with EU guidelines.

The deadline for submissions is December 1st. Entries can be emailed to, or sent by post to Wajid Khan MEP, Unit 18, The Wesley Centre, Royce Road, Manchester M15 5BP.

Entrants must be at least 16 and not more than 30 years old when the trip takes place (1st June 2018).

All entries must be accompanied by a completed submission form which you can find here.

I look forward to receiving your submissions! If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact Veronica Bennett in my office at or on 07794 035 738.
